Plateau Woman: Tough, Hardworking and Resilient; Wants more support

Some rural women in Plateau State have decried lack of support from government and other relevant bodies as the world marks the United Nations International day of rural women.
The women, who engage in other non formal economic activities said lack of basic support from the government has stalled their potentials to contribute to the development of their communities.
Rural women in search of better opportunities are already moving their goods and services to the urban areas.
Women in Plateau state are generally regarded as tough, hardworking and resilient and they do everything possible to support themselves and their families.
Agriculture is seen as one major engagement for women in most rural communities in Plateau State but access to land and farm inputs such as fertilizers and insecticide has limited their involvement in farming activities.

According to the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, rural women are a force that can collectively drive global progress and they are key to achieving the millennium development goals.
