Unijos Bows to Pressure, Reduces Students' Surcharges by N6000

Just got this press release from the office of the REGISTRAR of the University of Jos regarding decisions reached on the fine students were to pay before they are allowed back in school. The management of the University reversed the surcharge from 12 000 to 6000.

PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT
REDUCTION OF SURCHARGES

Following the interaction between Management of the University of Jos and officials of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) led by its National President, Comrade Tijani Usman Shehu on Tuesday 17th February, 2015, Management considered the appeal by the Student leaders and resolved as follows:
1.     That the surcharge payment which is to cover the cost of damages and other expenses incurred by the University as a result of the last Students’ demonstration, be reduced from N12,000 to N6,000 only. The payment should be done online via https://mis.unijos.edu/fees.

2.     That the suspension order on the 16 former officials of the dissolved University of Jos Students Union Government (SUG) be lifted immediately and they be allowed to sit for the Second Semester Examinations. However, they are still expected to appear before the Students’ Disciplinary Committee to explain their roles in the November 2014 Students unrest. 

3.     That all returning students must sign an undertaking on Oath to be of good behavior during their remaining period of stay as students of the University. This Form which can be accessed via www.unijos.edu.ng, must be completed and signed before a Commissioner of Oath in a competent Court of Law.

4.     That the Second Semester Examinations will commence on the 23rd February, 2015 as earlier scheduled/announced.
Please, note that all Halls of residence and Hostels will be opened to Students who have complied with the above conditions on the 21st February, 2015.
All Students are, therefore, advised to take note and comply appropriately.
