The
Plateau state governorship election petitions tribunal has upheld the election
of Governor Simon Lalong at the April 11 governorship elections in the state.
Chairman
of the governorship election petitions tribunal, Justice S.B.A Candide
dismissed the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party and its
governorship candidate Gyang Pwajok saying the petitioner failed to give
credible and cogent evidence against the declaration of Simon Lalong as winner
of the April 11 governorship elections.
He
further held that the petitioner also failed to proof any substantial non
compliance with the provisions of the electoral act as amended and that the
governorship elections conducted by the third respondent was substantially in
compliance with the provisions of the electoral act.
The
tribunal said the grounds upon which the petitioner was challenging the
elections were vague and generic therefore stands dismissed.
Lead
counsel to the APC Garba Pul and counsel to the first respondent Jonathan
Mawuyau Commented on the judgment.
Chairman
of the All Progressives Congress Latep Dabang said with the victory, the party
will no longer be distracted.
Chairman
of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state Raymond Dabo congratulated Simon
Lalong for his victory and said the PDP will position itself to provide a credible
opposition in the state.
