Embattled
Rector of Kano Polytechnic, Professor Yusuf Al-Hassan, who was accused of
forging his PhD certificate has observed that he was not actually the target in
the campaign of calumny by Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Al-Hassan presented all the copies of his disputed original
Credentials to journalists in Kano.
Professor Al-Hassan, who spent over fifteen years in the United
States studying and teaching, was appointed Rector last year, but was last week
accused by a panel of investigation set up by the Government to verify
allegations against him, of forging his certificates and misappropriating over
N800 million.
Speaking after presenting his credentials, Al-Hassan said; “I
was shocked while resting on my holidays in America when friends and family
members started calling me that ‘welcome to Nigeria’ with a hammer story of
forgery on you, that is Nigeria for you.
“It was true that when the panel visited the institution and I
gave them photocopies of my certificates and explained to them that all the
originals are in United States because my family stays there”.
He first displayed a McGill University Bachelor of Education
Certificate awarded to him in 1983 and signed by one Margery Paterson who is
the Associate Registrar, then University of New York certificate of Master of
Science in Education received August 7, 1987, and his PhD Certificate from
University of Missouri awarded May 1999.
Al-Hassan who earned his Professorship from iSupport Learning
Institution in America and showed his Certificate reading ‘Professor in
Residence with iSupport Learning’, as Professor of Career and Technical
Education, and was signed by Steve Waddell CEO and Founder.
He also displayed the highest American Educational Award of Who
is Who among Students in America Universities and Colleges in Recognition of
Outstanding Merit and performances in education and also awarded with the
Outstanding Teacher Award for five consecutive years by Donald G. Cook General
United State Air force (USAF Commander).
Al-Hassan said he was proud that somebody from inner city center
of Kano was doing his state and Country proud in far away America no matter
what anybody would do, but I don’t bother’. [Thisday]
